Glossary

Pitch- The standard degree of highness or lowness used in a perfomance

Intonation- Accuracy of pitch when singing or playing an instrument

Rhythm and timing- A regular repeated pattern of music

Scales-  are octave-repeating, meaning their pattern of notes is the same in every octave

Arpeggios- is a musical technique where notes in a chord are played or sung in sequence, one after the other

Dynamics- there two basic dynamic indications in music which are: p or piano, which means "soft", f or forte, which means "loud".

Phrasing- the grouping of notes in a musical line into distinct phrases

Range- the range of tones that a voice or instrument is capable of producing. Also called Compass

Sight reading- to perfom without previous prepation, to read music at sight

Improvisation- to play or sing spontaneously mostly by inventing vartions on a melody or creating a new melody in harmony with a set of progession chords

Vibrato- is a musical effect consisting of a regular, vigorous change of pitch

Confidence- belief in oneself and one's ablities

Stage presence- the ablity to captivate the attention of the audience by the performer's manner and appearance 

Projection- is the strength of singing whereby the voice is used loudly and clearly.
